Motion from Structure

Our
model of structure-from-motion computation predicts a new illusion regarding
illusory modulations in perceived speed in SFM. We recently confirmed this
prediction (Fernandez & Farell,
2005a), and called this phenomenon
motion-from-structure, because it
is exactly the reverse of structure from motion. This is, we found that
perceived motion is not veridical, but biased in a way to be more consistent
with the depth structure given by the depth cues—in our experiments we
only used binocular disparity as the depth cue. |
